Marshall Statement on Prescription Drug Executive Orders
July 25, 2020
WASHINGTON - Today, Congressman Roger Marshall, M.D., released the following statement after President Trump issued a series of Executive Orders (EO) aimed at addressing patient access to prescription drugs:
“I applaud the tireless work of President Trump and his administration for taking steps to lower drug prices. As a physician, and now member of a Congress, I have seen first hand how warped the drug supply chain is and how middlemen have accumulated so much power. In signing the EO on Medicare rebates, America’s seniors will finally receive the maximum discount of their prescription drug plan.”
Congressman Marshall has long advocated for passage of the so called “Rebate Rule.” Over the past two years, he has led congressional letters and organized meetings with heads of the Department of Health and Human Services and the White House.
“I believe that innovation will drive the cost of health care down more than any new law or policy, and the President’s one-month delay on signing the international pricing EO is an unprecedented opportunity to not keep kicking the can down the road. This call to action is not just for the pharma industry, but also to Congress. H.R. 19, The Lower Costs, More Cures Act contains bipartisan provisions that can be signed into law today. This bill has the power to lower out-of-pocket patient spending, protect access to new medicines and cures, strengthen transparency, and champion competition. I will continue to work with the President to deliver market based solutions that will have a lasting positive impact for American patients.”
