HHS Distributes CARES Act Funds to Health Care Providers
SALINA - Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is delivering $30 billion in relief funding to health care providers in support of the national response to COVID-19. This money is the first disbursement of the $100 billion Public Health and Social Services Emergency Fund included in the CARES Act recently passed by Congress and signed into law by President Trump.
A total of 3,320 health care providers in Kansas will receive more than $325 million of this funding. Facilities and providers are allotted a percentage of the $30 billion based on their share of 2019 Medicare fee-for-service (FFS) reimbursements. These are payments, not loans, and will not need to be repaid.
“Hospitals and clinics, like a lot of our businesses, are in a hard spot financially,” said Rep. Marshall. “They have had to close down non-emergency appointments and services, cutting off a significant portion of their revenue stream. At the same time, their expenses related to combating the outbreak are increasing rapidly. This first round of funding comes at a crucial time, and I’m glad to hear that they’re already starting to see the deposits in their accounts this morning.”
